Nokia 5500 a ‘rugged phone’ which cannot handle two months of normal use

February 28, 2007 by schawlaf

Yup the phone which is meant to work even when thrown in dirt even water cannot handle two months of usage and its keypad has peeled off  , I tried asking the nokia dealer and they refused to fix it , I called Nokia and they said its not their problem now where should I go anyway there is no publicity as bad publicity so Nokia if you can’t fix my phone atleast others can see what a lousy product this 5500 is ooh and again I am satisfied with my E70 although now its loosing its chrome finish from the stick

For eye candy of 5500 with peeled keyboard

SMART 2 Go in Pakistan

February 26, 2007 by schawlaf

My first impressions for Smart2Go are that it’s a nice software and very practical if I live in West but in Pakistan it’s not of much use unless I travel frequently out of Karachi . I downloaded Pakistan maps and tried running it , first it asked me for a GPS device which I don’t have ( I have just placed an order to Semsons for their  i.Trek Z1 for USD 114.9 shipped to Pakistan with solar power batteries and 50,000 points data logger ) so i start the simulation , the best thing even if it does not have city maps for Pakistan S2G has airport to airport maps and the database is extensive covering the most obscure Airports in Pakistan so I tried the simulation from Karachi Airport to Hyderabad city with voice navigation and it gave turn by turn instructions- very neat . While searching through categories the nearest Cinema or mall it shows me is at Sulatante of Oman some 600 kms away from my city , I hope Nokia will someday upgrade the maps of KArachi and let us upgrade the maps ourselves to make it more uselful , Will post more once I get my GPS

My Compaq 6182 EA a disaster to reinstall

February 22, 2007 by schawlaf

I’m one of those who hate to live with the run of the mill software provided by the notebook manufacturers ,  I want my machine to be mine with my stuff no Dell or HP stuff so everytime I buy a new machine , I install my own stuff on it starting with Win XP Pro but on my latest 6182 EA , installing OS was a complete disaster and took me 2 days to figure out the way , first when I tried for a fresh install from scrap got the message that hard disk not found , what my new 80 gb Toshiba hard disk not found , a little googling revelaed that I have a SATA drive and XP being old does not recognize SATA and I need to have a floppy installed to run it , now for me floppy is so 1900’s so I again googled for a way out and stumbled upon NLITE a excellent utlity to preinstall drivers on XP even make it run by all itself by pre defining the key and all the things I want such as no games and support for Asian languages etc , it even makes a bootable ISO . So I finally installed XP and all the drivers but wait my ordeal was not over HP has some high definition Audio by Conexent which I am still trying to figure out will post updates as they happen

UPDATE :  I have finally fixed my machine , the UAA drivers from MSFT were to be unisntalled first and then the latest to be reinstalled and after that I went to Device Manager and searched for devices and everything worked . For the black look , I also found Noir Royale theme of microsoft which I have installed for a beautiful black look on my black machine will post more updates when available

FreeBee Tv Free of Charge Mobile Phone Tv and it works

January 16, 2007 by schawlaf

Finally today I was able to watch streaing video on my Nokia E 70 , all through FreeBee Tv , http://freebe.rok.tv/ , they have a number of menues including monkey Tv in which monkies and hares were newscasters , they also have a music channel , cartoons , movies etc . although the movies and cartoons are black and white , I think that’s due to copyright issues . the setup is easy , go to the site , register , use your phone’s WAP browser to go to the web page , enter the pin code and it starts . The strem uses Real Media player so the myth that realplayer in S60V3 can only play streaming audio not video is nullified . The Catch , you will need a high speed network , it will not work on GPRS , I ran my TV on 256kbps Wifi network I think even 128 will do so try and have fun

Streamingly
